Casemates Square This square at the entrance to Main Street, is now a busy commercial area, but was once the site of public executions. On the western end of it is a model of the depression carriage designed by Lieutant Koehler, during the Great Siege, for the purpose of firing down onto enemy lines from the tunnels. To the north of the square are barracks which were in use by the army until the late 1960s. The is to be beautified and pedestrianised to regain part of its 19th century character.
